Organisational Culture eats Agile for Breakfast.

In my role as an Agile Transformation Coach and speaker I’m fortunate to travel a lot.

And on those travels, I’ve been blessed to experience different cultures.

Like the time when my request for pineapple topping on pizza in an Italian restaurant in Milan was met with such a look of disdain, I felt lucky to walk out alive.

But when I make the same request in an Italian restaurant in the States, I’m also given the option to have fries with it.

Or the time in India when instead of my head nodding adding clarity to the situation, it confused matters more.

Yet it worked as intended in other places like Bosnia, Mexico, Ghana, etc

From these and many other experiences, I’ve learnt that different cultures have different norms.

The same holds true for organisations. They have cultures… made up of interconnected and interdependent sub-cultures. And the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Some organisational cultures are aligned with agility. Some aren’t. Either way, culture is a determining factor in the success or failure of any Agile transformations.

Because organisational culture has transformation for breakfast.
